At Britannia we are enthusiastic about all things sparkling. We are especially passionate about wine made with heart, knowledge and craftsmanship. Now the travel restrictions have loosened somewhat, we are delighted to announce the recommencement of our popular wine masterclasses, starting with a visit from Ettore Maggi, Brand Ambassador for Bellavista.
On 2nd September guests will have a unique opportunity to taste the finest of what Italy has to offer in sparkling wine. The sparkling wines of the Franciacorta region are celebrated as early as 1570, in the book "Libellus de vino mordaci", where Girolamo Conforti explains how the second-time fermentation in the bottle enhances the wine's taste and aroma - and healing properties!
Since the foundation of wine producers Bellavista in 1977, the passionate champagne lover and entrepreneur Vittorio Moretti has had Dr. Conforti's book on his bedside table.

The Franciacorta region has unique potential for the production of grapes to be used in high-quality sparkling wine, utilising the champagne method. The cool climate, and the winds from the Po Plain in the south that meet the pre-Alps at Lago Iseo in the north, and the region's mineral-rich, unique soils shaped by glacier growth and retreat; made the conditions unique to Italy. Bellavista is a legendary wine house, with a reputation for extremely strict requirements for production and quality.

No other Italian sparkling wine producer has won more awards for its quality than Bellavista. It would not be a stretch to say that Moretti and Vezzola have created some of Italy, and the world's, most iconic champenoise wines, since the 1980s.
The La Scala opera has Bellavista as its house wine, and Mattia Vezzola has been named "Winemaker of the Year" by Gambero Rosso several times.
All in all, this promises to an evening where you will get to know the house's unique history and their exceptional wines.

For those of you who would like to dive deep into the history and tasting notes of the wine, we recommend the Masterclass in Vinbaren.
