Britannia Bar at Britannia Hotel in Trondheim has been included in 50 Best Discovery, the international guide from the organisation behind The World's 50 Best, which showcases some of the world's most recommended restaurants, bars, hotels and wineries. The selection was announced on 16 July 2026, making Britannia Bar one of only a handful of Norwegian cocktail bars featured in the guide.

Why Inclusion in 50 Best Discovery Matters
50 Best Discovery is the official guide from the organisation behind The World's 50 Best Restaurants, The World's 50 Best Bars and The World's 50 Best Hotels. It brings together recommended restaurants, bars, hotels and wineries from around the world, selected by more than 3,000 Academy members with extensive local knowledge and recognised professional expertise.
Unlike the annual World's 50 Best rankings, 50 Best Discovery is not a ranking but a carefully curated guide celebrating exceptional quality, craft and hospitality. Bars included in the guide have received sufficient votes from members of The World's 50 Best Bars Academy to earn a place in the selection. For Britannia Bar, inclusion brings increased international visibility among travellers, food and drink enthusiasts, and industry professionals.
– This means an incredible amount to us. Being included in 50 Best Discovery is a tremendous honour and a recognition of the work we've invested over many years. From the beginning, we've been committed to creating a bar rooted in our own history, local ingredients and the hospitality we want to be known for. For us, this is about more than Britannia Bar, it's also about putting Trondheim and Norwegian cocktail culture on the international map. We hope this recognition will inspire more people to discover everything the Norwegian bar scene has to offer,” says Øyvind Lindgjerdet, Executive Bar Manager at Britannia Hotel.
An Award-Winning Year for Britannia Bar
Britannia Bar's inclusion in 50 Best Discovery follows a year of international recognition. Earlier this year, the bar received both Best Cocktail Menu Norway and the People's Choice Award at the Bartenders' Choice Awards in Stockholm, two of the Nordic bar industry's most prestigious honours.

Britannia Bar - A Cocktail and Aquavit Bar in Trondheim
At Britannia Bar, classic cocktail techniques meet local ingredients and Nordic flavours. This philosophy is expressed through the award-winning Portraits cocktail menu, featuring ten signature cocktails inspired by individuals closely connected to the history of Britannia Hotel.
Combining classic cocktail craft, artistic expression and storytelling, each cocktail offers guests a unique experience that reflects the hotel's rich heritage and distinctive identity.
Britannia Bar also holds official certification to serve Norwegian aquavit, an accreditation awarded in 2021. The menu includes Opland Juvel, widely regarded as one of the world's most exclusive aquavits. Together with an uncompromising commitment to hospitality and quality, this has established Britannia Bar as a destination in its own right.
– Britannia Bar's inclusion in 50 Best Discovery is a testament to the ambitions we've held ever since Britannia reopened: to create experiences that stand alongside the very best in the world. This is a proud day for the bar, for the hotel and for Trondheim as a destination,” says Arild Sjødin, Managing Director of Britannia Hotel.
